24.01 Mojave Desert: "We've been through the desert on a horse with no name."

Is it possible that a landscape so harsh, dry, barren, rugged and inhospitable can be so beautiful? Yes! Yes, indeed.

Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, California.

'Don't fence us in, please!'

How about a little color from a sunset at 'home'.

A road to 'Nowhere'.

23.27 A video of a sprinkling of pictures from Spain and Andorra... (and France...and Gibraltar).

We're on 'vacation' until early October.

As the sun sets on a wonderful experience, we close with a video. Most of all, turn up the volume...

Before viewing the video and perhaps the last posted triple-blog, we thought of adding some statistics
relating to Hike-about 23. It's quite sobering, we believe, when one thinks about them in a context away
from the trails.

Here they are:

Days away : 49
Days traveling : 10 (both car and planes)
Days Sabbath rest : 7
Days lazy : 5
Days hiking : 27

Distance covered on foot : 236 miles (378km)

Vertical gain : 61,500 feet or 11.6 miles (18.5km)

Distance by car : Forgot to check

Number of hikes double-counted : zero (for Barry Jahn only)

Injuries sustained on Hike-about 23 : None.
Injuries sustained after two hours with delightful grandchildren : Back injuries.

Four Overseas Trips undertaken during 2015, excluding Spain and Andorra.

A video follows after the collage and two pictures below:

Dewar Peak, a rock with a view, South Island, New Zealand.

A sheen on Manapouri Lake, NZ.

The collage forms the basis of the video below.

Four hikes before sunrise (different days) at Mount Woodson.

We are 'on vacation' until October.

Reflections at Lake Poway, mountain and clouds cool on lake surface.

Here comes the sun' at Woodson Peak.

Early morning light softens harsh mountains.

Clouds liven up the mountains.

Looks like a bay and beach but is in fact sky surrounded by mountains and clouds, before sunrise.

More reflections on Lake Poway's surface.

The weather in a word: "Cloudy"

"We beat you up," the editor seems impatient as she awaits sunrise, from the peak.

Cheers,

Jenni and Jeffrey
