50.20 Utah: Desolation Peak and Lake. 50.21 'Peter, Paul and Mary'...oops...should be 'Mary, Martha and Catherine' Lakes.

This blog combines two hikes undertaken at the beginning of September. In fact, the latter hike was the first in the region (9/2/2021). At the time, fall colors were just a dream, we were a little out of shape, fitness a bit suspect, with a few extra pounds hanging on or about the body. What's changed since then? We have witnessed probably the most stunning foliage ever seen, undertaken glorious and tough hikes and had an incredible time. During the period we have completed some twenty-six-odd hikes, actually, nothing odd about any of them. If anything is odd it's you know who.

We ended up extending our stay a multiple of 5 times the initial booking of nine days (7 times). As we were saying, not much has changed: We're still a little out of shape, fitness a bit suspect, with a few extra pounds hanging on or about the body but Utah continues to ingrain itself within our souls.

After this extra climb, we can't see 'the lake for the trees'.
And that's why Jenni carries a set of shears with her.
Only a few more twigs to go, Jen.
Of course, we could have remained at lake level and enjoyed reflections. But then Jenni wouldn't have been able to show her macho side as we circled the lake from above.
Reflections on/off Mary Lake.
Jenni on the ridge. Sunset Peak behind.
A view of the three lakes from Sunset Peak. Notice a fourth close to trailhead, Silver Lake.
Jen trudging after we struggled to find a trail.
On the ridge.
Striding past Mary Lake on the way home.
Leaving Catherine's touching trees.
Cheers,

Jenni and Jeffrey
