Staying at the Drakensberg Retreat is one of the most pleasant experiences. For those old enough to remember, many hotels provided an atmosphere and services that were luxurious without being over-the-top. Effectively, they were affordable. Meals were part of the service and included in the tariff.
Guests were waited upon, hot beverages were available all day (served), the lounges were open and comfortable, being great places to relax and enjoy the scenery while encouraging social activities amongst the residents. Games rooms ensured those who needed indoor entertainment could partake. Rooms did not have television or internet services although one large set usually sat in one of the lounges, disturbing anyone brave enough to enter. Internet was available in common areas although such areas were anything but common. A swimming pool allowed the kids to enjoy themselves and an extra-large patio had guests sitting there taking in the views (when not asleep) with animals roaming about and the odd hiker or two returning from the trails.
Admittedly, it is not for everyone, but it does take one back a century or two, but for the television and internet. We think people did know how to live in earlier times despite the many luxuries not available. A subtle difference is that quality was paramount then. Perhaps, the luxuries are what spoil us. Just thinking aloud.
We are referring specifically to the Retreat. Anyway, the Drakensberg Retreat returns us to earlier times, and we believe the occasional old-world treatment is not something to be missed. Grab it before it disappears...happening soon...in fact, as we write.
A different view of the Drakensberg Retreat. They provide a 'mud bath' for those wishing to improve their health. We would love it but are far 'too healthy' to take a dip.
I don't know how and why she gets into these positions. Don't look at me. Obviously,...I'm not in the picture.
As if this is so much better?
Are we going in there? When she poses that question, I get the distinct impression it's a little on the negative side.
But, it's the only way back home.
And I have to follow. What happened to an afternoon at the movies?
Feeling pretty smug after a great climb...deservedly so. Clouds made the sights dull in color.
'You see, this is all very intelligent: A person walks up the hill/mountain only to come down on the other side. What's the purpose you might inquire? Beats us.'
Those are relatively 'tame, wild' horses. We have watched them fight each other and it was pretty ugly. Reminds us of another species...
'We see fields of green, red roses, too...'

Gaga is about to show the youngsters an incredible move...she's going to try and stand erect, holding the ball and without pain, whines and assistance. What a granny!
