LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

12.13 Washington: Rattlesnake Ledge, one for the road with Gavin

An edgy editor at the Rattlesnake

How's your high diving technique, Gav?

Looking down and through the valley

Gavin had the enthusiasm as well as showing us a clear pair of heals as we headed up Rattlesnake trail.
It is a little under 5 miles with a reasonable gradient but still a good workout. In the same vein as Oregon,
the terrain is covered in trees and there's much water, too. In a little misunderstanding, the editor thought
we wanted to rest before going to Europe whereas we had similar thoughts about the editor's aspirations. Gav
solved the problem by providing his Mom with a Mother's day present of a hike followed by chocolate. We still
don't know whether the motivation for the hike was the joy of the wonderful sights at the top combined with the
satisfaction felt after exertion or the thought of white milk chocolate later. That question will probably go
unanswered although the chocolate will not remain uneaten.

Above it all and feeling a little dizzy

Ironman 'Micro-Softy' of Seattle.

We met a few of Gavin's friends again, always nice to touch base on each visit. We watched the indoor soccer
on Thursday as our son was prolific in the scoring department. We had a visit from Gavin's very good friends,
Candace and Michael. He met Mike at college, shared a room for three years, joined Microsoft at the same time
and have lived in the Seattle area all of twelve years. They have three wonderful girls under the age of 4 ½.
The middle girl, Maggie, was getting ready to leave the other day after a visit. She ran around the room kissing
and hugging each of us 'goodbye' without instruction from Candace. On completion, she headed to the middle of
the room, faced the five of us and exclaimed, "Is there anyone else to kiss? Did I do everyone?" This was from
a toddler, not yet 2 ½. Out of the mouths of babes.

He thinks he's climbing; actually groveling before editor

Seattle area mountains are steamin'

Gavin likes to 'rag' us, especially his dad who created the gap. The opening being the frequent expression of
this 'hike or that hike' being in the top-5 or top-10. Our son, who is the engineering type, probably has
kept tally and decided that we have at least 40 top-5 hikes—that's on the low side. While we concede he is
correct, our apparent inaccuracies or exaggerations are easily remedied. We have been working in tenths or to
put it another way, our rating system has accommodated the limitations in the numerical system, using decimals
to the full extent. We suppose that's sufficient technical nonsense for one day or blog. How's that Mr. 'Smarty-pants'?

Scenes from our trip to Zurich or 'Korny Korner'

Clouds like this confused the pilot. He was going to divert the flight to Newark before we read him the riot act.
The first part is true, the latter is how we felt.

Flaming gold at the end of the rainbow...cloud

'Bandit' gets it in the tail. Our pilot fires at an enemy aircraft. That'll teach Delta to encroach in our airspace

The internet connection was amazing. The downside is one has to sit on the wing to enjoy it.
