LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

29.01 Anza Borrega, California—Butte Slots and a beautifully painted desert.

If I had the talent of an artist and was allowed to paint only one scene, I think it would be of deserts. They certainly are harsh, even cruel, tough places in which to survive but there is a beauty that is certainly more than 'skin deep'. In fact, the surface, including the floor and mountains, look like paintings in of themselves. Over the past few years, the deserts have become one of our favorite places to visit, whether it be mountains or dunes. Yesterday's short but meaningful hike through slot canyons as well as to a few minor peaks with surrounding views, was outstanding. The light proved to be ideal although it was neither sunrise nor sunset. We think the pictures attest to the magnificence of that which we witnessed.

Our next hike is a tough one which takes us high and far into the desert. The size of the mountains in the region are staggering. California displays a diversity of nature including, inter alia, mountains, canyons, volcanoes, lakes, an ocean, deserts, forests, you name it, plus earthquakes to re-arrange the landscape, from time-to-time. As we said to our granddaughter, Ellie, one day: 'are we having fun or are we having fun?' To which she retorted, "I don't know the difference between the "two funs". Too smart for us.

The view from the last hill we reached.

After coming out the slot canyon, now standing above it.

A little mesmerized...okay, a lot.

Upbeat in a superb environment.

Taking a break.

Love it.

Shades and shadows on the desert 'floor'.

Safe

An apparent whole lot of nothingness or maybe not.

Similar to an earlier picture but with full background.

Back in the slot.

Fascinated by the position, the view...actually, life in the desert.

Cheers,

Jenni and Jeffrey
