LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

Greece: Gerontovrachos Parnassos, which means of course: 'Sticky Boots'.

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every three, or slightly less, months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2024, the blog contained over 1,636 hikes (far less than actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

65.08 New Zealand 2017: A handful of pictures from a trip to this dynamic land...as we take a break from Andorra/Tenerife.

We have visited New Zealand on 6 or 7 occasions, the last being in 2017. It seems that when we like a place, we tend to visit as often as possible until we are sated. It appears this is not a principle of moderation and balance. However, it feels like it's time to revisit. Included in this section are photographs depicting color and out of the way places plus a couple of old, tough favorites.

Outside of Wellington.
Somewhere along the Abel Tasman Great Walk.
Waikaremoana tramp, not Jen, it's the name of the Great Walk. The load becomes a little heavier as the day progresses.

Waikaremoana Falls.
Mount Alford with clouds.
Mount Alford, clear. Jen appears at bottom of photo. We see much greenery but it's not often one surpasses this coloring.
Halfway up Avalanche Peak.
Reaching the summit of a 'tough guy'. A day of sweat and incredible scenes at Avalanche Peak.
Mount Fox, some rough forest on the way up including a glacier.
Jen back on the Abel Tasman Great Walk.
We became impatient waiting for the tide to retreat. We had to cross this body of water to regain the trail after spending the night at a hut on the banks of the water.
Sometimes calm and serenity are all one needs...come on let's get going Miss Jenni.

Jen reaches a minor peak on the Avalanche...quite a day.
There she is on Bealy Mountain.
Taking a deserved rest on Carew Falls, probably days earlier.
Somewhere in the Castle Hill region...a peep for Maude Alge.
An old favorite, 'Dawn at the Doom'. Fortunately, anything but at Mount Ngauruhoe, along the Tongariro Great Walk.
St. Arnaud Mountain.
One of the highlights of our trips to New Zealand, Mount Taranaki.
Close to the peak, peering over the edge and following our route (Mount Taranaki).
A view of the glacier from Avalanche Peak.
On one of the Great Walks, absorbing last light after a day on the slopes.
Jen peaks at Mount Taranaki...a great occasion.

Cheers,

Irresistible...Jen took the photo in the women's bathroom.
