Hi There,
Today had the potential to be a highlight, a distinctive time. Wait a minute, folks; we’ll get to it soon. The weather predictors were screaming more rain.
How wrong can you be when it rains every day in this town. We headed south but our editor, always on full alert, spotted the black clouds. ‘Okay’, we agreed, ‘Let’s move in the opposite direction.’ We can be very flexible especially when we need to avoid the natural perils. We notice there are many out here.
Our editor has developed an extremely sensitive eye for detail—it drives us a little ‘dilly’.
The best bet is to climb the very steep Bridger Mountains again, we thought (Over 3,000 feet and 6 miles). This we do and we go up faster than ever. It is a race between the raindrops and us. We are not offering ‘odds’ today. We may not be intellectuals but we are also not stupid, we think.
Once again, the effort and sweat mixed in with the breathtaking views make us feel blessed to be alive, so fortunate. As we reach the top, our tiring but gutsy editor turns to look me directly in the eyes and says, ‘Oh! The thrill, the excitement, the sheer pleasure, oh, Jeffrey.’ ‘Pray, continue I urge her on.’ I’m feeling very pleased and self-satisfied by now. It’s nice to know that after nearly thirty-six years of marriage, a man still has what it takes. Life really is good. ‘Don’t stop, my Love,’ I urge her.
With that, she gives me a queer look and says, ‘Wow! I love these climbs. The adrenaline does it for me. It’s the best.’ One minute you think you have it and then it’s gone. It could have been an unbelievable day. Our self-esteem is ‘shot’.
At the various summits we explored, we did what we like very much. We played on the rocks. We love to climb and experience the many types of rocks and test our skills. ‘Yes, Mom, we are being very careful.’ Meantime, our editor provided us with up-to-date forecasts of the imminent storms. However, at the time of writing, today is our first period in Montana that we have not seen rain. It is good to know that weather forecasters, no matter what state or country, are consistent—often wrong but always confident.
Finally, we would like to mention that our daughter, Natalie, provides us with a treat most weekday mornings. The computer goes beep, the screen changes color and up pops Nat and Little Ellie. It is a wonderful way to commence the day. We are wondering if Ellie thinks we live inside a computer monitor. It is an option for us these days.
So long,
Jenni and Jeffrey
