LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

47.46 Utah: Arches National Park: The Devil's Garden and all those forbidden delights.

This proved to be an exciting hike once we reached the junction leading to the back-country. Truth be told, we were surprised by at least two of the sections in the back-country segment. Admittedly, it was rated difficult but we did not expect to confront a section that made us see the white of each other's eyes. We have no embarrassment in admitting the fear factor was pretty high as we balanced precariously on a tiny ledge, heading across a large boulder. Wow!

There was no opportunity for pictures as we supported each other over these obstacles. However, upon reaching safety, we did take a picture of a young woman in a similar position on the ledge, which is shown below. As is typical, the camera, was unable to give a true perspective. The strange thing is that we have done the hike before and cannot remember that dangerous part. Whether it means we have failing memories, becoming soft or there has been a change or we took a wrong turn, we don't know. What we do know is that we are not rushing back to try it again....certainly not this week.

This is one of the dangerous segments of the trail alluded to in the opening text.

Seriously trying to understand the rock formations...or maybe why my boots curl up at the toes.

Heading back, not knowing what lies ahead.

If I could sing, I might be crooning 'Come Fly with Me'. Seeing I cannot do either, it's a silly caption.

Cheers,

J & J. Thank you for the “arm chair” hikes & scenery. Sitting back in the warmth of my home, chai tea & crumpet in hand, hoping you’re both well. Please keep the virtual scenery coming. Cranking up my thermostat so I can sweat too :)))

Always enjoyable to get your humorous perspectives. Thank you. And...every time I read your alias, I can't help but smile. So apt.
Take care and don't sweat it. Jeffrey
