Early going, we turn to see a startling sight. Higher, the better. One could get used to living over there...pretty quickly. Perhaps not get used to living there...even slowly. Jen seeking a path...any path. Could get used to the views. On our return from a top; no pictures going up, it was too dangerous. Sometimes I just cannot believe where Jenn schlepps me. Need some calming. Farmlands intertwined amongst the wilderness, close to the town. Surf and bathe. Bathe and hike. Cheers,  Jenni and Jeffrey

Red and Black Mountains after half-hour along the trail. A view from somewhere on Red Mountain. Lake Mead from Black Mountain in Nevada...Arizona half-way across the water. A frequent hiking destination: The Frenchman. The Frenchman at dawn, a while back. A view of Mount Charleston, with Las Vegas strip in foreground. Jen looks particularly vigorous as she ascends. A long distance view of the bridge above Hoover Dam, Freeway-11, Highway 93 (bus), the Railroad Pass Hotel and of course, rugged desert and mountains. Lake Mead from far and high via telephoto from Red Mountain. ...and another... A view of the outskirts of Boulder City, a magnificent region, outside of summer. A view into the deep desert of Lava Butte, a testing climb. Happy about brunch. 'Bye from Mead and the two colored mountains' plus the incredible Fortification Mountain (aka 'Hill'). An extract comprising only a few photographs from one of three hikes undertaken at the mountains on this side of Berryessa Lake, Annie's Rock. We'd like to share these with anyone interested, for, we believe this region is nothing short of spectacular. It provides tough hikes, beautiful and varied scenery and incredible opportunities to explore, while absorbing the foregoing. I don't think we have seen and taken better photographs than these; then again, often wrong.    Because I'm occasionally allowed poetic (non) licence, although I do feel convinced of this sentiment in respect of what we have observed at Berryessa, I do have a rather nasty side deriving some pleasure in 'winding up' Jenni and our son, Gavin. (In fact, keep this quiet if you will. Some nostalgia for the desert and Lake Powell. Many hikes still not published from December/January. The shadow of your smile. This time a genuine smile, the real thing. Boulder hopping. It's location, location, location. Blue, gold, anything—it's in the eye of the beholder. Hold that Colorado back...Glen Canyon Dam. Taking a short cut. and then up-and-over...the story of our lives. Change of texture...careful, as it crumbles easily. Classical.   The old-fashioned style that never goes out-of-style...the best of occasions. Cheers,  Jenni and Jeffrey

Every now-and-again, along comes an opportunity that's unique. Actually, most are unique but there are those that stand on their own, often because of the subjectivity of the participant or hiker.  We were reading through some recommendations for the Berryessa Lake region when this guy's approach came across as original. Some of his comments were:    Hazards : "On the way down, the grade is so steep in places, you will have to make the choice of letting gravity have its way with you or you can try to engage in a controlled fall." How enticing.  It's a very short hike of 1.5 miles with an elevation gain of 1,470 feet per mile. Believe us that is steep.  He continued..."Other hazards: Poison ivy, mountain lions and rattle snakes."   He concluded: "Would I do it again?: NO."  Only one of many rewards from the top: A view of Monticello Dam and wall, Berryessa Lake, Putah Creek, the beautiful surrounds and put it all together and one is immersed ...
