LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

Eastern Cape, South Africa: Storms River region.

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

65.01 A View into Argentina: Some highlights from 2018.

Lest we forget, we thought of recapturing photographs from earlier hiking trips while focusing on either a single country or when appropriate, a single state or region. While we won't cry for Argentina, we certainly would consider returning to this beautiful land.

In addition, it seems that as new photographs enter our system, the older ones tend to fade, sometimes disappear or be forgotten. That's a pity. Therefore, by highlighting older adventures, it allows us to view them and not forget the privileges with which we have been blessed.
That's Jenni negotiating the tricky rocks through the glorious colors.
See penultimate photo for whole edifice.

64:26 Portugal: Geres: Lake Canicada stride, a view of the clouds below us.

A group of 'house-boats'.
A world of clouds in a very clouded world.
Looking down over the roof of a house viewing clouds high in the sky. Hmm!
What's not real in the photograph?
Swan Lake.
A more exclusive part of the lake.
Delightful.
A home on land and water.
A second showing of what I believe to be one of our finest photographs...bridge reflections at our best. Is that in fact water or forest?
Seeking to separate reality from dreams...Why?
Taking a boat-ride on a fast-building rough sky. Looking down to view above.
Tranquility.
A different perspective of ("our") bridge.
Back to reality as we leave reflections for another place, another time.

64.20 Portugal: Geres: PR7 part 2 opposite Sao Bento Church plus tail at the top, added. How about a splash of color?

Sometimes one comes across a place that has all the attributes one favors. This occurs more frequently than one might imagine. That in and of itself is wonderful. Nevertheless, then there's a place that offers even more. Often it depends on the beholder. It permeates a magical or mystical spirit, particularly out in the forests and upon the mountains. That may well be Peneda-Geres'.

Looking toward the 'swing' (left of trees) on the peak, destination of a couple of recent hikes and last week's blog (see below).
The trees at the peak close to the swing.
Commencement point trees which are on view from most positions on the circuit of PR7.
Never enough color; we will absorb every shade gladly.

Jen looks to where we are heading.
Close to destination.

We dropped down steeply from the church, crossed the water and are now heading to the mountain top on this side of the lake. The 'trees' are once again on view.

One of the 'smaller arms' of Lake Canicada.
On the way down, we were struck by the simplicity and yet majesty of these couple of trees.
The tall grass was amazing; it too made us look closely and revel in its beauty and mystery.
Jen glides through it which seems most appropriate.
Next two photographs show us returning to a village...always built on steep mountain slopes.
A perspective of village and mountain peak ("swing peak")
