'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

Angel's Landing - Zion Nat. Park

Last half-mile to go, Straight-up

Gutsy Woman

Words from Jeff ......

Today, we tried another mountain. Actually it was a set of cliffs. Eventually, we sat at the top of Angels’ Landing. This is correctly named, for it is a place for Angels or birds, anything that can approach from the air. However, not for aircraft and especially not for decent people. We trudged up for two miles. We think our watch stopped because it took us forty-five minutes only. At the two-mile mark, the real excitement begins. Why? For another half-mile from that base, we climbed with the assistance, at times, of chains alongside the precipice. If you look over the edge, 3 to 5 feet wide, you can be drawn to throwing yourself off the cliff because of some psychological attraction. We don’t understand this but it sounds interesting. We don’t even know if this true. How can you trust us when we would do something so foolish? Where were our parents when we were growing up? Did we grow up? We wish you had seen it yourself. In fact, we would rather it had been you than us hanging on for dear life. This we do for fun. You should join us for a scary day.

Angels landing--At the Top

On the way up, we spotted a snake. We were very pleased to spot the snake. You see, the last snake we failed to spot, bit poor Jenni. However, we are very pleased to let you know that we didn’t notice any bears. We don’t think a confrontation with a bear would be a fair fight. Jenni doesn’t have a strong ‘upper-hook’.

Triumph, relief but still to get back down

At the summit, we sat and thought. We pondered, too. We noticed of the people there, most were half or a third of our age. It did not worry us too much for we can almost remember when we were that young. ……………………until next time.
