LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT
Eastern Cape, South Africa: Storms River region.
'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'
Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.
Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.
We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.
By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.
Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end. Our reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."
"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

Today is a traveling and rest day, especially as the editor keeps saying something about her ‘muscles not responding’. After the last two strenuous hikes, besides taking off our stylish hat to her, we think she deserves a rest. However, we may be wrong.
Homeless, but what a great view of Auckland
If you’re going to be ‘tramping' around, may as well have a garden patio.
Bula Coke
We have found that the secret of life is not to fool oneself—other people, that’s fine. People with addictions are inclined to do just that—kid themselves. We are obviously not addicted to any substance and certainly not Diet Coke. However, just to prove the point, we are now buying Bula water regularly. How do we exercise such control you may ask? Even if you don’t inquire, we are going to tell you anyway.
Firstly, buy a bottle of Bula water. Secondly, purchase a 2 litre Diet Coke or larger. Because you don’t know what impurities are contained in the bottle of water, empty it but retain the ‘nice-sealing’ cap and container. The next step is left to your imagination. See image if having difficulty with the concept. Remember, never fool yourself—it’s plain dumb.
Issue of Life. Does a different container change the essence of the drink?
Bus Stop
So, did you think 12 miles in mountainous territory is a ‘walk in the park’?
By the way, the next bus is due in a fortnight. See you, Editor.
“Jailhouse Rock”.
This is where they house naughty rocks. If I was a rock, I’d like to get closer to the warden.
Hey, it’s a job….isn’t it?
By the time I’m finished, that mountain will be a cinch to scale.
New Zealand Menu. Where’s the lamb (beef)?
At this time, we’ll take the Dock Bay unless you have something shorter.
Very Worried about the Day’s climb
Even more worried about getting down from the top bunk. (Give an editor a camera. Tsk! tsk!)
Matching outfit to Rental
Much easier to buy a new outfit, although we had a problem with the shoes.
Of Peesh and lambs
Ellie taught us: “Sheep follow, peesh lead”.
Cheers,
Jenni and her Tramp
