LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

Hike 30: The Cape of Good Hiking

Jenni at Peak--Lion's Head

Hello All, (Been a while)

Perhaps, it is the fairest Cape of them all. However, before we agree (and it is indeed fair), we would like to see a few more. We arrived in Cape Town from Johannesburg on Monday and immediately noticed the difference between the two cities. After not seeing mountains in Singapore and Johannesburg, the spirit was beginning to sag, the body, too. We must admit that the latter sagging began somewhat earlier. From the airport, we looked through the window and our eyes feasted on mountain ranges that took the breath away or maybe it was the price of the rental car.

Lion's Head and Table

We have not sent emails out since the beginning of our sojourn through the Snowy Mountains in Australia. By the way, they might not be the highest but they are quite beautiful and positioned in a wonderful national park. The blog is up and running and contains selections of pictures and whatever we have to ‘say’. However, we have received many comments/complaints about not receiving emails directly. So we thought this one from Cape Town may be nice, especially as the ‘Kaapies’ might like a bit of nostalgia.
Rock climbing--the fun part (as well)
A bird's eye view

We hiked and climbed rocks to the peak of Lion’s Head today. It is a wonderful hike with outstanding views of what we think the Cape is all about. The first part is a walk up a fairly steep path, followed by scrambling up and over rocks with the help of chains, at times. We spent much time at the peak, conversing with fellow hikers and taking in the sheer beauty. There were more foreigners on the mountain than locals. We were quite tickled when a few people asked ‘where are you from’? What does one ‘cry’ out when one is in the ‘Beloved Country’? Given time, we may undertake the hike again. However, Table Mountain looms—it is far more spectacular than any picture we have seen of it. From Lion’s Head, it is haunting, powerful and dark. The tragedy is the uncertainty and fear created by ‘criminal elements’ mugging hikers. Who ever said life was plain hiking?
