LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

South Africa: Devil's Peak: A bird's eye view of a section of Cape Town.

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

Mount Woodson facing west, Lake Poway below and beauty all around. Contrast with Iron Mountain facing east....nostalgia from Peru.

It's fascinating to be positioned beyond the clouds for a number of reasons. For one, they are virgin white, so pure, so bold from on high and above. However, when one is below the clouds in San Diego, for instance, particularly when they don't allow for direct sunlight to penetrate, their undersides are grey and somber—pretty dull and quite miserable. After returning from the peak, it is as if one has a secret: that of striking colors and images burned into the mind and soul. Whereas to most at ground level, it is a dull day weather wise, the images and feelings derived from the mountaintop remain within one and continue to radiate even when walking back on the unaffected surface below.

Facing east from Mount Woodson as well as some lake views.

Feel the smoothness.

Always preferred mountain to ocean, views.

Antennae on Black Mountain break through clouds while sun lights foreground.

Clouds begin to dissipate and reveal what they covered.

Dam below, clouds all around.

6:15am: all is calm except for ducks disturbing the glassy surface.

An exciting skyline from on high.

Iron Mountain Views:

Purple in the morning.

Soft, oh so soft with hints of color.

Somewhat harsh scene facing east.

Amazing what displays are visible during the early hours of the day.

Cheers,

A few scenes from Peru 2013-Choquequirao Trek

Chicken sandwiches or was it eggs for breakfast?

One road off Main Street before we commence a 42 mile trek.

Car sick before a big hike in the Andes.

14th century engineering, approaching Choquequirao above the walls...protection against invaders from Mars?...Oh, mankind.
