LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

Chamonix, France: A walk on the wild side: Alpage de Loriaz.

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

Elfin Forest, gone dog hunting...searching as far as Benardo Mountain, San Diego County.

Our granddaughter, Ellie, has been asking her parents for a dog for years. We've already had about 4 pre-namings. Our latest scheme or conspiracy goes as follows: Jenni and I will buy a dog. We'll then realize that wherever we stay in San Diego won't allow dogs to board. In addition, as we travel frequently, we'll have to ask Natalie to keep the dog which of course is for the kiddies' sake. At that stage, the kids will be happy, Mom and Dad will have to take care of the dog and Jenni and I will be happy because someone is looking after our dog and we'll be even happier because the kids are happy. Overall, everyone will be happy except one person which is not bad odds. Who can ever underestimate the world's greatest conspiracy, the one between grandchildren and grandparents against...Guess Who? To be grammatically correct, should that rather read "Guess whom?"

At last. We finally discovered what that gadget on the wall is for.

And we thought our good friend David (Diamond) was only an expert in matters financial...it shows, he goes 'against the grain'.

Meantime, back in Elfin Forest, the editor searches the steep slope for a stray dog for Ellie and Benny.

Perhaps she'll find a dog swimming in the dam, Olivenhaim, Escondido.

Reflections.

The search continues for a St. Bernard for Ellie and Ben on Bernardo Mountain.

I15 Freeway, not our favorite landscape scene but Hodgson Dam is pleasant.

At the peak, taking the gap.

Height and low-light hide many blemishes although not required from this peak.

At last, we find a friendly dog in Borovets, Bulgaria, a couple of months ago.

Cheers,

Jenni and Jeffrey

It's been fun looking through your keyboard and camera at areas that I know quite well. The Gorge walk is one of the most popular in the entire Berg, and I could tell you a number of stories of people I've come across there. One story I have to tell you is that the large rock you're standing on (Looking for some respite from height) is what our family calls "Granny's Rock." It's where we deposited the ashes of my wife Terri's mother and later of her father. It's a wonderful spot. Another wonderful blog, my friend. I's so glad to be receiving them. All love and best wishes to you and the editor for 2019 and beyond.
