LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

South Africa: Devil's Peak: A bird's eye view of a section of Cape Town.

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

55:34 France: Lac Gloriettes from the town trailhead. 55.35 A different hike commencing from Lac Gloriettes and heading toward and along the terrace.

If nothing else, the weather is bold and a 'little' intimidating.
Maybe more than a little.
Not for Jenni though. She has beaten her fear of lightning... nice try, Jeffrey.
Nice reward after nearly a couple of hours.
En route: 'In an English Country Garden'...correction, French.
In the early stage, we gain height rapidly and view the town in which we parked the car.
Proof that Jen reached the lake. One fellow accused us some time ago of 'doctoring' our pictures. We are pleased to write that he made a full recovery.
The French Pyrenees is truly stunning.
A week later, we commence the hike from a different town and head in another direction. Jen stands in the opening below. (At 10'o'clock relative to the boulder below). The people on the trail are closing in on the lake.
One more of the lake, with full background, showing a restaurant below to the left. Remember: This is Europe and particularly, France. Bon Appetit!
On a third hike, we spot Lac Gloriettes from quite a distance. In the picture above, one can see, besides the dam wall, the roof of the hut protruding in the distance. More of that hut is visible in this photograph.
Some parts of the trail below...not the road across the way. Loved the grouping of the trees. On an earlier hike, we hiked down through and to the side of the trees. Dangerously steep in many places.
The beautiful French countryside. A tempting region in which to settle...in our eighties.
Cheers,

Jenni and Jeffrey
