LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

64.02 Portugal: Peneda-Gerês: A brief introduction to an aspect of the national forest: A depth of delights, maybe hidden treasures, but mainly: Reflections.

We were thinking the other day of something we have learned and for which we feel blessed: Since embarking on Hike-about, we've come to appreciate deeply, many simple things we took for granted previously.

Should you wish to view the better side of an 'upside-down world', we think this is as a good time and place as any. Because we are obviously biased, we don't believe it gets better regarding reflections and lakes.

The photographs are a taste or reflection of 2 powerful days in the mountains. Details, plus a spread of photographs, will follow later. In the meantime, I like to reflect on the world which becomes vastly improved when gazing upon lakes, particularly from on high. During this particular occasion, we were most fortunate to arrive at Vilarinho das Furnas Dam, (Canicada, too), during a windless hour. We don't think we've had better moments of reflections encompassing the sky, clouds, mountains and flora plus other surroundings.

We left the high ground to approach water level, providing at least two perspectives.
I think that's a smile...sort of. Meanwhile, we enjoy the symmetry at rear.
Our first hike took us up some 2,200 feet and then dumped us back to earth later.
We explained to the kids what happens to one's teeth when one does not floss and brush.
Jen raised her cap. Regretfully, not to me but probably the magnificent surround.
Should we have a negative outlook, it would still be very difficult to find a reason not to live below (Canicada Dam and Lake).
Talk about getting away from city life...we understand.
Under water, on the surface, and above the lake.
It's not what you think as might be construed by one of our harsher critics.
While the thin layer of water ahead appears to be a separate pool, the reflection of the rock on the surface seems to create separation. Nevertheless, it's all one body of water.
Height always provides perspective and invariably, enhances the beauty.

Symmetry in action, again.

Cheers,
