The Little Puzzles of Life.

I could not help thinking of the thousands of opportunities confronting a person even over a short period of life. To be more focused, it appears that thoughts arrive in one's mind at what seems to be random moments. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realized that there are, as police officers like to remind us, 'no coincidences' in the timing of these thoughts. Many of them surface because of familiarity, reminders, a jolt, recurrences, and then perhaps, the mind acting with a so-called 'mind of its own'.

Allow me to illustrate it via example. Often, we will set out on a hike, something undertaken regularly. The terrain, or more importantly, small sections of the area seem very familiar as if visited the previous month, instead of years before.  It might seem fabricated, but other than making a 'sworn declaration' to that effect, it often feels that we undertook the experience recently. Clearly, this may not happen as often as we are leading a reader to believe, but it certainly occurs on a sufficient number of occasions that we often feel 'weren't here just the other day'.

These surreal moments are quite beautiful, or at least, ongoing reminders which are seemingly insignificant but nevertheless, still attractive. Often, these 'important' moments, we tend to take for granted. It does beg the question. "Why?"

Why would an insignificant incident appear to occupy much needed space in the mind? Why do we struggle at the best of times with our fragmented memories?  Surely, a rational approach would be allocate our limited resources more efficiently. Is there more to this than meets the eye? Just asking!
