LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

From Dallas with love...Hello Hike-about 7

The pace has picked up considerably as we packed-up for a change and flew into Dallas to say “Hi Y’all” to the Lazarow’s of the great state of Texas as well as our cousins, the Cohen’s and Frysh’s. What a pleasant surprise we received when both Gavin and Robert arrived, too. As we sat down for our Shabbos meal, we wondered : ‘Where is Waldo…um Watalie?’ The highlight for us was observing the interaction of Jade and Justin with their big cousins from the West. It was a very special time, indeed.

Unfortunately, this is not a typical Dallas scene...close though.

Sometimes we are most optimistic. However, our editor has assured us there is very little chance of British Airways stopping over in Dallas to collect us en route to Johannesburg even if we wear very bright colors, our stylish hats and wave flags. So we are forced to fly west back to San Diego to board a plane going east to London. This is very complicated but we understood her explanation finally. It was in December last year that we flew west to New Zealand and arrived back in San Diego from the east in February, effectively circumscribing the world. Our editor said that it made her dizzy. ‘We have just the remedy,’ we answered eagerly. Watch this! We are now flying east to South Africa and then onto New Zealand. It means we will circumvent the world the other way around. ‘Balance,’ we exclaimed, ‘is important in life.’ Unfortunately, our dear editor excused herself and went to the bathroom while we waxed poetically. Sometimes we wonder about her bladder or maybe, her bona fides.

Don't think this is Dallas, either

When a person sits on these large aircraft for long periods, it is not surprising to find the mind wondering all over the place. It’s not as if one is able to the leash the brain and have it stay put. Anyway, we sometimes think of the apparent anomalies of life. We are more than satisfied if we are able to avoid thinking of the particular serious case of hypocrisy that has afflicted the world recently…well, maybe the last few thousand years. Nevertheless, we want to know how a rose can have such a wonderful bouquet or fragrance when it spends its day standing in manure. Hmm! Maybe, we need to take shorter but more frequent flights. We don’t know.

The Lazarow Boys...men in Dallas?

We look forward to seeing Mom, the Saks family and tackling some of the challenging hikes of the ‘Beloved Country' and beyond. We hope you will keep in touch with us, particularly as our editor needs some positive influences from time to time.

Cheers,

Jenni and Jeffrey
