Instinctively, we felt that a visit to Valley of Fire State Park was going to be special. The plan was to arrive late
afternoon to avoid the excessive heat as well as capture a sunset. This is to be followed by an early morning visit
to witness a sunrise and of course, to enjoy hiking in the cooler part of the day. Thus far, we are most excited with
the result. As we mentioned in the previous blog, the landscapes are harsh and yet as beautiful as we have ever seen.
Deserts in general, and the Mojave in the case of this visit, are providing the most captivating scenery. For one of us,
I'm prepared to stick my neck out and state that the deserts are remarkable and perhaps the most scenic of all sights.
I never thought I would ever make such a statement. Then again, I've been know to utter words that I would wish
to recall. You decide whether I'm off base.

Setting sun hits 'low hanging fruit'.
Textures and colors hit the spot; a favorite without doubt.
Another favorite as 'cute' rock gets the sun treatment.
There's gold in the valley.
On the way to the park, the harsh Nevada land shows its beauty. A shadow in the middle adds a little extra.
Sunset arrives but protruding rock stretches for one more glance at sun.
All the same color but for the uneven late sunlight.
Shadows and contrasts.
Setting sun plays with clouds.
Harsh to inhabit, beautiful to visit.
The black tarmac to the Red Rocks.
Balancing rock steals the limelight
Cheers,
Jenni and Jeffrey
