'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'
Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.
Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.
We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.
By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.
Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end. Our reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."
"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

27.18 El Siscaro Lake, 7,800 feet altitude, Andorra: Going above and beyond the water on a Monday morning.
One of our favorite times to hit the slopes is a Monday morning. We remember many Mondays in places that were 'okay' but not where we really wanted to be after a weekend. Later in the afternoon and evening, there's time for work.
We reached lake level after a solid climb and then went up to the pass above, another stiff ascent. After finishing brunch, we noticed a closely-bunched group of cyclists sprinting along the mountain top to which we had climbed. They halted a little away from our position and took a break. We could not help but overhear their chatter—the Queen's English. Having not spoken to many people in the language for a while, we walked over to introduce ourselves and have a few words.
The group consisted of an English cycling guide and a friend who resides in Australia. The third fellow was a strapping young Welshman, a professional rider who develops mountain-bike tracks in different parts of the world and the fourth, his assistant. The other two comprised a magazine writer and photographer respectively, completing a shoot for an article to appear in a British cyclist magazine. We enjoyed some good moments, the best being when the guide mentioned how outclassed he felt in the company of two professionals. Of course, much of the time he is considered the expert.
A swim in the lake following the return down the first mountain was a treat and proved to be one of the day's highlights notwithstanding I was without a bathing suit, towel and water heater.
Sometimes, the simplest places are best.
Sometimes, the world looks to be a very contented place.
And then there are those that struggle and are most fortunate.
...but there's always the downhill to compensate or is it really a benefit?
And then there is the sun in the morning to welcome the day.
And the flowers to beautify and leave us with fragrances.
And the crystal clear water-flows to wash away the impurities.
And there are those who need to ponder.
And to reflect.
And sometimes to reflect a little more...
And some are fortunate to share it together.
Cheers,
Jenni and Jeffrey
