LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

47.29 A relatively few (30) special, active positions enjoyed on hike-about 47, most from unpublished blogs.

While Jenni reaches another milestone on Wednesday, that's nothing compared with what she has achieved these last few months. There was a time when I used to be on the trails and look back to see where she was. These days, I have to look ahead.

I understand tact or discretion prevents me from mentioning her actual age. All I would add is that she is very old. In fact, should I be her age, I'd shout out to the heavens how pleased and proud I am that I can still hike. As an example, today she reached the peak of Corkscrew Mountain in Death Valley, California. She rose 3,300 feet along a tricky trail, treacherous at times on the way down, steep as heck on the way up, the last 1.5 miles rising at 1,700 feet per mile. That's amazing. I was so impressed that on her return I got out of the car to welcome her back even though I was very bored.

While we are so far behind in blog postings, we have included some highlights from the latest Hike-about. Should there be anyone out there with an interest, we hope you enjoy nature's offerings.

The upcoming birthday girl reaches Corkscrew Mountain, one of our top-ten challenges. Well done, Baby!

He finds religion at the 'Red Cathedral' in Death Valley.

Climbing in Golden Canyon, Death Valley, California. (Wishing for a name change.)

There's that river again, the fascinating Colorado.

Window of opportunity at Snow Canyon, St George, Utah.

Along the Colorado and Lake Powell, Page, Arizona.

Above Lees Ferry, Arizona...looks like Utah.

Finding a fascinating ridge trail as an offshoot of Golden Canyon, Death Valley. A day filled with adrenaline rushes.

Gooseberry Trail, Canyonlands, Utah.

More Page, never enough Colorado River.

A great place to check camera settings...huh?

Hamblin Peak, Nevada above Lake Mead.

Finding the spot on Spenser Trail above the Colorado, AZ.

Sidetracked for a change on the way to Arizona Hot Springs. Guess the river below.

Through the channel and heading for the hot springs.

The final climb to reach the Frenchman, Nevada.

Utah, of course.

Castle Rock, Durango.

Ice Lakes Basin, Colorado.

Golden Canyon, the Valley.

You should know the place by now. 😁

To get to the base of Yellow Mountain, one has to undertake a treacherous climb first. The return journey is even tougher.

Jenni does herself proud reaching Mount Humphreys, Flagstaff, Arizona's highest.

Bishop Peak, SLO, California: A tricky climb to reach the top...so he says (during the wildfire period).

Contemplating in the Valley.

Making our own trail in Beatty, Nevada...never as easy as it looks...never.

Climbing out of the Gooseneck channel, San Juan River, Utah.

Filling up space at Delicate Arch, Utah.

Finding purchase above a tricky section at 'Bowl of Fire', Nevada.

Scrambling, boulder hopping and rope climbing in the fascinating Gold Strike Canyon, Arizona...while residing in Nevada. (Rope along the narrow crevice).

Cheers,
