LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

San Ramon: At first, I thought it needed explanation. Not true. Top Left: "You're kidding me. After hiking 4 miles from the base below, you still want to climb up there...and snakes...?" The stance revealed it all. The rest is self-explanatory, too. (Not part of the formal trail either).

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

47.33: Golden Canyon, Death Valley, California, along the boundary with Nevada: A truly remarkable place.

In summer, this region is reputed to be the hottest place on the planet. We cannot attest to this personally for outside of winter, it's unlikely you'll find us in the Valley. During winter, as the pictures hopefully attest to (and those still to be published), the situation is vastly different...and very attractive.

Delightful position and view.

We found a new position along the ridge, knife-edge in places.

To all those good people who responded to our previous blog and expressed concern for injuries sustained, we want to express our gratitude to both of you, especially Mom.

Obviously, one should always be honest, for integrity after all, is a vital aspect of society. Of course, this is fully supported by the political class who continue to take the lead by example. Nevertheless, I was not forthcoming about our experiences at Gold Strike Canyon and the boulder hopping and rope climbing we supposedly undertook. It seemed so exciting and impressive that I got carried away reporting activities and subsequent injuries. It turns out that I sustained a few injuries, nothing too serious, and I did feel the after effects for a few days. Embarrassing as it is, I admit the injuries followed from falling out of bed after Jenni shoved me, on a couple of occasions. Who would have thought? You know you've lost it when the wife throws you out of her bed.

I have become rather cautious though while continuing to learn everyday. One never knows where the next attack or injury is likely to arise. To this end, I am ensuring that all future bookings of motels/hotels will be for accommodation on ground floors. Surviving a two feet drop from bed is reasonable but from upper levels--far too risky.

We've noticed from time-to-time, that some people misinterpret the text we write. At times, things written in jest are taken seriously and text written in earnest, treated lightly. Obviously, the fault is ours but we suggest the aforegoing should be read while partaking of a meal. In that way, you can add a 'pinch of salt' to it.

Bon Appetit!

Heading down to the devil.

Exhilarating at the Red Cathedral.

Gives new meaning to take-out brunch. It's not the food; it's location, location and ...
Walk this way, walk that way...walk in a dazzling environment.

Can't help but smile even when those muscles complain.
The end of the road.

An exciting position from which to absorb the sights.

Giving credence to the line: "Life is a narrow bridge".

Filled with purpose.

Designed and developed by nature without a college degree.
We've been before but it's never sufficient. It highlights the point that one's path through life should be unique even when repeating steps.

Cheers,
