LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

50.49/.50/.51 Utah: Jupiter from Guardsman Pass, Bonneville on the circuit and Desolate Trails in Mill Creek Canyon.

Extraordinary wooded area below Jupiter.

The Desolate Trail was the first hike of our 61-day stay in the greater Salt Lake City region. At the time, our initial booking was for 9 days. The hike itself was reasonable but not something to tempt us to extend our visit. Thereafter, life became more exciting as each day passed. Had snow not arrived when it did, we could easily have extended further as there were some exciting hikes remaining for the taking. Instead, we moved off and headed to Page, Arizona where we suffered our way through two weeks of sheer delight. While we've often expressed our bias for the state of Utah, Page and Boulder City, two towns surrounding Lakes Powell (Arizona) and Mead (Nevada) respectively, send shivers down the spine just thinking of them. And that's in summer.

 Odd guys out.
On the top of Jupiter, mountain not planet. A typical scene in Nepal. See below for proof.
Kala Pathar at 18,500 feet, I was so tired, I fell over and knocked the flags down. Everest is across the way.
We were tasked with clearing the area of "Mountain Angels". It's important to maintain standards in Utah. I gave them 2 hours to clear out of the state or they'd have to deal with Jenni. It seemed to work notwithstanding my black eye.

The black eye was the least of my issues. Missed the roundhouse from the guy behind the bike. Lay on my back dreaming of great sights.
Sharp climb.
Speaking of Jenni, she makes her way up the Desolate Trail.
Somewhere on the Bonneville Trail, who can resist?
Trying to hide from the 'Mountain Angels'; apparently not as brave as his tough words.
There's a price to pay for being rude. It was a long walk back to the city. Fortunately, I left her extra water. Sometimes I think I spoil her.
Cheers,

Jenni and Jeffrey
