LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

Eastern Cape, South Africa: Storms River region.

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

50.52 Page, Arizona: An assortment of positions while wandering about Lake Powell.

I think I have a passion for reflections...more passions, more enjoyment.

Besides the beauty, which is at times quite harsh and yet, softens when the sun rises and sets, there is a tranquility, an atmosphere that makes the region, comprising Lake Powell, Glen Canyon Dam, the flow of the one and only river, the Colorado, a very special place. (Also, makes me write long sentences.)

At the lake, which appears to be a river to us, one is surrounded by magnificent colors, obviously various shades of blue and hues of reds and yellows. Reflections off the water abound, constantly changing in shape, size and color. Add in the hills extending from water level up and outwards with mountains in the background, and the scenery is complete. We won't even mention the way the river and lake curves, sometimes viciously, creating 'horseshoes' in many places.

Walking in canyons, hiking above and along the lake or kayaking on the surface of the fascinating body of water are all methods of getting close to the essence of the land, experiencing the wonders. Most of all, exploring the land without restrictions, allows one a new adventure on each occasion.

Perhaps a simple way of expressing it may be: The colors and scenery, together with the ability to find one's own path up, over and down the various obstacles makes a person feel content and motivated. It's a time to enjoy old-fashioned fun.

Yep! We like the place...indeed!

Stepping on the bridge at distance.
Wah Weap, yes, why weep indeed? It's gorgeous.
Glen Canyon Dam.
Returning from the water after finding our way down. There is no trail, so it becomes quite a scramble especially when finding oneself at a cliff edge and figuring how to get across to the other side or seeking alternatives.
A repeat: Loved this shot.
Jen reaches the peninsular, after beginning at the road high above.
Sitting on the dock of the bay.
So many opportunities, so little time.
Cheers,
