LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

New-Zeal-And Vigor

You can see the two peaks that we climbed, in the distance.

Hello Friends,

Target - Mt. Manaia

Of course, we're not experts on the subject. In fact, we are rather ignorant. However, we are very comfortable with the Kiwis, the people not the birds. The editor's spouse should ensure he is not comfortable with the 'birds' either; unless he wishes to endanger himself
.
Steps for a change!

In our travels over the years, we have found that the people of this country are more similar to South Africans than any other nation. It makes it very easy to communicate with them, for a change-we believe we speak the same language. We would go so far as to state they are very much like the Rhodesians-the predecessor of
the great Zimbabwe nation.

As high as it gets!

'We'll move on now,' we intimated to our editor. We thought it might be nice to provide a little background or color as we go along. Apparently not. Our editor worries when we get too involved in details. You should see her waving the red pen-it is not a pretty sight. Well, she is still pretty but you know what we mean. Anyway, you might remember that we do some work on the road, not the trails mind you. Therefore, we tune into the time zones of the world conscientiously. It gets confusing when one crosses the international dateline, though.

C'mon Down!

Let me give you an example. What's happening is that we are buying and selling securities in New York from our base in New Zealand. So, when we sell on Thursday in New Zealand, it is Wednesday in New York. When did we sell the stock? That is a dilemma we face--life on the road is not without its challenges. Our editor, of sound mind and the practical approach, cuts to the chase. "Did you make us some money? The rest is mental gymnastics." One can't argue with her. Because of her extensive hiking knowledge, she is able to see clearly, the wood for the trees.

Peak Manaia

We remember back in Switzerland during September, we were getting to work late in the afternoon because we spent much time sitting on the wonderful Alps. Opening bell was 3:30 pm then. Now, opening bell is 3:30 except the 'pm' has changed to 'am'. We think that 3 am is a little too early for us to get to the office. After all, we're not bakers. The good news is that the editor is sleeping at that time so we are able to get away with the little 'white lie' about our working hours.

Watching the World go by!

We enjoyed another wonderful experience on the climb today. It was over 1500 feet in elevation gain but the distance was short. In other words, while it was not vertical, it felt that way. We gazed at the beautiful bays, the blue, and at times, turquoise ocean, forests and surrounding mountains and suburbs. We were also able to see Bream Head, the climb of the previous day.
The scenery is stunning, the trails are challenging but quiet. New Zealand is a great place to hike and experience the great outdoors.

Our 3rd hike was one of endurance rather than beauty. A good sweat and no pictures.

Cheers,

The Lazarow's

Good Shabbos to all as we enter the holy period, almost a day before San Diegans do.
