LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

Eastern Cape, South Africa: Storms River region.

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

San Diego: Birds, Beach and B(h)ike, on a Sunday morning before the arrival of the crowds.

Massive array of birds perch above our backyard pool.
Jen approaches the nudist beach. You have to love winter at this beach, not an uncovered body on view: Phew!
A while ago, we discovered a more adventurous climb from the beach. A part profile of the hill. You could say 'It's steep and narrow'.
Superior to air force precision.
The old way of showing the bird(s).
We turn around at La Jolla Farms Road, returning to the beach and spot a building that a few friends occupy...delightful views from those apartments.
Bring it in closer, an uncommon view of La Jolla shores.
Taking a turn.
The chain fence indicates the top.

One of the fascinations of being in the wilds is 'stalking' animals and birds...with a camera. Taking pictures of these creatures when locked behind bars or enclosed is not a good idea (the animals, not us). In principle, it's something not attractive. However, should one wish to break principles, after all what good are they should you not be able to break them, then the shots of the raptors below worked out nicely. Nevertheless, most of the enjoyment comes from tracing them in the wilds and being able to capture them on camera in such positions. Another way of expressing this is that should these fellas not wish to allow us the opportunity of viewing them in the wilds, then we have ways and means of getting them at the Glider Port.

This looked like the boss.
This one looked like it had its head up its whatever.
Okay, that's better...peregrine falcon.
If this is a female and was human, I would call it the sultry look. Instead, it's the hooded pose; reeks of danger. I suppose that makes sense, totally intimidating to a male. "You were saying..."
Anyone can be caught off-guard. Gave it another opportunity and things got worse.
A more innocent looking bird.
A somewhat less dangerous in appearance character.
Cheers,

Jenni and Jeffrey
