LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

KwaZulu-Natal: South Africa: The top of the Tugela Falls, the world's second highest...someone forgot to turn on the tap. Big surprise! (Beyond the chain ladders and the Sentinel).

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

61:52 Arizona: Page, a rare snow day in our experiences visiting a gem of a town.

We have visited Page frequently and each time, as with many places, we see different sights, lighting, weather and views missed previously, not forgetting new hiking opportunities. While we've commented often of the magnificence of this town and its surround, it never ceases to amaze, enthrall, entertain or tire us, physically. Page is a destination we are most fortunate to have found and followed through with many return visits.

The pictures below are some that were not published during the displays from series 61 of the December visit. They were all taken on a single day after a night's snowfall, the only one experienced during the visit.

It was a surprise as we did not realize it had snowed while we slept.
Viewing in a different direction with only a 'dusting' of snow.
A small section of the lake/river.
The rock formations are distinctive while adding to the beauty of the scenes.
Jen goes wandering and probably wondering why she is wandering in the snow over slippery rocks.
Castle Rock, a prominent landmark.
Another distinctive formation, Tower Butte, particularly for a South African, the clone of Voortrekker Monument.
Lake Powell, truly a beautiful place.
A Canadian might suggest this being a place one 'drives a boot', eh!
More serious snow, all in close proximity to the 'dusted' areas. Glen Canyon Dam to the right with the Colorado River in view ...at least, the high canyon walls.
The sun breaks through and finds (makes) the 'golden' spot.
Contrasts are stunning. Molly's Nipple at rear (not front?) in Utah viewed from Arizona, although close to the border. We have been up on the peak a few times sans snow.
'Blue Water, White Snow'...but you knew that.
Cheers,

Jenni and Jeffrey
