37.11 Introduction to Bulgaria. The world continues to fascinate, stimulate and excite two little people.

After 9 days in Bulgaria , it's still early days, but what we have seen, experienced, enjoyed and of course, as always, struggled up and down the slopes, has been magnificent. In fact, our second major hike in Rila National Park, mostly rock scrambling, as we mentioned before, is arguably a highlight of over 8 years of Hike-about. Eastern Europe continues to display its beauty and ruggedness of which it should be proud while we have also enjoyed the people we've met, both locals and visitors, immensely. It is our third visit to this part of the world in a little over a year although the first was to Slovenia only. We remember and give thanks to those who had the guts to take a 'brick out the wall'. Before returning to publishing blogs from Romania, a few pictures of Bulgaria follow. We received a warm welcome from the officer on duty … a little unusual. We decide to go off-trail to reach the peak ridge, take a right turn and 'enjoy' some nippy moment...
