  The following pictures are representative of some scenes viewed from the peaks of Red Mountain, Black Mountain and along the journey. This region is truly remarkable which will become even more apparent when we complete the full updates. We mention this praise most times as we are in awe constantly; or how can one not pay tribute to nature's magnificence. Lava Butte: A couple of blogs earlier, we showed a close-up of our reaching this unusual peak.     A small section of the overpowering Lake Mead. Jen shows the importance of always going up in life as the real climb begins. Fortification Hill is the prominent mountain, water laps its shore. "You take our breath away...in more ways than one." We have discovered that each mountain climb is steeper than it looks, each length of hike is longer than it appears, each outing is more difficult than it seems, and yet, while most challenges might be tough, very few are as impossible as they appear—provided the mind and heart are motivated. We haven't published half the hikes undertaken over the last 3 months. Of course, this implies that compiling blogs is much more difficult than the type of hikes we enjoy. Yeah right!  After leaving the Crack, a slot canyon below the mountain (see picture later), we head toward two peaks. Jen moving up smoothly on a fairly tough day of scrambling. Stopping to absorb the usual rugged beauty provided by the Colorado River and its magic. Just about to reach Lizard Peak, a tough but shortish peak. Not many are steeper than it. For perspective, the mountain in front of the lake below is the one we scaled on the last occasion we visited, some 4 weeks before. It does not have a trail. ...

Partway up the Hangover climb, enjoying the unique sights of Sedona. You don't like the above, hangover (on) and we'll change the view. One of us stands at the edge attaining a greater view. That looks like an 'Eagle' has landed. Wonderful place to climb with lovely backdrops (Jen in foreground). Following Jenni's lead. She's off home. He steps carefully but prefers to cross over at the bridge below. Something special about these rocks, boulders, hills and buttes. The climbing is terrific; the snow looks gorgeous but is unpleasant for climbing. Jen climbs to a well-positioned shelf and probably is thinking of a safe route down. Across the way, we head for Sugar Loaf Mountain.  Jen moves up cautiously. Racing the clock above the suburbs. Jen scares the little guy.
