Angel's Landing - Zion Nat. Park

Image
Last half-mile to go, Straight-up Gutsy Woman Words from Jeff ...... Today, we tried another mountain. Actually it was a set of cliffs. Eventually, we sat at the top of Angels’ Landing. This is correctly named, for it is a place for Angels or birds, anything that can approach from the air. However, not for aircraft and especially not for decent people. We trudged up for two miles. We think our watch stopped because it took us forty-five minutes only. At the two-mile mark, the real excitement begins. Why? For another half-mile from that base, we climbed with the assistance, at times, of chains alongside the precipice. If you look over the edge, 3 to 5 feet wide, you can be drawn to throwing yourself off the cliff because of some psychological attraction. We don’t understand this but it sounds interesting. We don’t even know if this true. How can you trust us when we would do something so foolish? Where were our parents when we were growing up? Did we grow up? We wish you had seen it...

Zion National Park - day 2

Half-a-mile to go--straight-up Well, all I can say is that we got back safely, Baruch Hashem. Today was composed of 2.5 miles of a very steep hike before a 1/2 mile of heart thumping, adrenalin pumping, rock climbing stuff. A good time to hold me tight There were many times on this Angels Landing climb, when I peeked down and thought to myself "why on earth am I here in this position"..... and then I looked up, grabbed the next chain and continued up. If one likes 'climbs', this is it! One has to navigate across 3 narrow bridges with 1500 ft of sheer drop offs on either side, to get to the summit. One bad calculation, and you're history. This is the third time we have done this climb and it does not get any easier. To top it off, coming down is no fun either - now one is actually looking "down" over the edges instead of up to the next level. WoW! It was great....maybe meshugah but great nevertheless.
