Setting the tone for the text below. A view of a tiny part of the Drakensberg at dusk. Staying at the Drakensberg Retreat is one of the most pleasant experiences. For those old enough to remember, many hotels provided an atmosphere and services that were luxurious without being over-the-top. Effectively, they were affordable. Meals were part of the service and included in the tariff. Guests were waited upon, hot beverages were available all day (served), the lounges were open and comfortable, being great places to relax and enjoy the scenery while encouraging social activities amongst the residents. Games rooms ensured those who needed indoor entertainment could partake. Rooms did not have television or internet services although one large set usually sat in one of the lounges, disturbing anyone brave enough to enter.
