LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT

Eastern Cape, South Africa: Storms River region.

'LAZAROW WORLD HIKE-ABOUT: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HIKE-ABOUT?'

Hike-about is an adventure that commenced June 2010. After storing our household movables, ridding ourselves of a house but retaining our 'home' together, we set off with the purpose of hiking in different parts of the world, not forgetting the home country, the USA.

Our primary focus is hiking to mountain peaks but any challenging hike will do just fine. Extended stays enable us to enjoy and experience living in various places amongst differing cultures. Hike-about has evolved into a way of life. It's also a process of discovery, both the world and ourselves.

We work and live 'on the road' but return to the city in which our grandchildren reside, every couple of months. This provides us the wonderful opportunity to be with them as well as a child or two, even three and of course, friends.

By the end of 2023, the blog contained over 1,560 hikes (less than that actually undertaken), each a set of pictures with stories and anecdotes from the trails. An index to the right allows the viewer to identify earlier experiences.

Finally, we are often asked about the journey's end.
O
ur reply, as accurate as we can state, is: "When we are either forced to cease through health issues or the enjoyment level no longer reaches our aspirations, we will hang up the boots."

"A Life Experience As No Other: Dare to Seize the Day Together", published by Fulton Books, depicts our life on the road and mountains until the beginning of 2017. It has developed 'exponentially' since then.

Triple Pursuit—a book, not a hiking trail

Kindly click on cover to magnify words

Dear Family and Friends,

I do not like to cross lines or take advantage of trusting viewers. After reading this, I think (hope) you will agree that this is not a solicitation but in fact, just the opposite—a no-strings-attached modest gift.

Many people have inquired of our love in reaching mountain peaks. What’s the attraction they ask? Quite simply, it is at these summits where we pursue one of our hobbies. More about that below.

Together with the valuable assistance of my traveling editor, my second book, titled ‘Triple Pursuit’, has just been published, a sequel to ‘Instead of a Flood’. I acquired a limited number of copies that I would like to distribute to certain friends and family, particularly those who were kind enough to purchase the first book. Most importantly, to those that made complimentary comments, how could I not oblige? To others who made me blush with delight, I will deliver the copy personally. Some of course, may consider this an unusual and cruel punishment. I hope that’s not the case.

Many of the book’s characters have names that are familiar to people on our blog distribution list. Please note that all characters are fictitious except when they are not. Hopefully, no one will be hurt, insulted or harmed that a name used for a character might seem unsuitable. I will mention that after publishing “Instead of a Flood”, at least one person took his/her character very seriously and was somewhat offended. Please accept that the book can only have a limited number of heroes but quite a few devils. Whist all our friends are upstanding members of their communities (family omitted deliberately), sometimes it’s nice to be the ‘bad guy’.

Unfortunately, the publisher has a very optimistic outlook; hence, an inflated price per copy. In the meantime, as we have a limited number of copies, once these are distributed, we might not be able to continue with the free commitment, although we will persevere.
On our return from hike-about 9, we shall try obtain copies to make available at a highly discounted price to other interested readers.

Friends who purchased the first book, kindly contact Jenni or myself and we'll give you a copy. What the heck—if you intend reading it, we’ll try send you one, too.

Warm regards,

Jeffrey
